Abstract

Objectives: This paper aims to underscore the significance of the Pain Management Services policy in Community pharmacy practice as a new and crucial initiative in Saudi Arabia. Methods: It was a narrative review of the Community pharmacy policy and procedures of the Pain Management Services system. Litterateur searched databases, including PubMed, Medline and Google Scholar, about specific Pain Management Services and Services policies and procedures in Community pharmacy practice. The search period is from the 1960s until October 2021. The term is in English and includes narrative review, systemic review, Meta-analysis and guidelines. All hospital or community pharmacy services are included in a search term. Besides, the national and international guidelines for general pain management services in hospital practice are also included. The Community Pharmacy Pain Management Services committee, a group of various expert members including clinical pharmacists, drug information pharmacists and clinical Pain Management Services specialists, formulated the guidelines of the policy draft. The draft was reviewed and corrected by one member, then the second member and finally by the Pain Management Services specialist. The topic emphasizes the competency of Community pharmacy Pain Management Services policy and procedures. Results: The Community Pharmacy Pain Management Services policy consisted of various items. It had a Pain Management Services committee, general assessment of Pain Management, Acute Pain Management, chronic pain management, Pain Management planning, implementation of Pain Management Services, Execution of Pain Management Services, training and education of Pain Management Services, pain management monitoring and complication Pain Management Services. Conclusion: The Community Pharmacy Pain Management Services policy is an updated initiative organized at a community pharmacy. Pain Management Services are required for various community acute and chronic conditions. They improve patient care and quality of life and prevent disease complications, reducing the healthcare system’s economic burden. Therefore, the Pain Management Services policy and procedures are highly recommended for implementation at the community pharmacy in Saudi Arabia, with the potential to impact the healthcare system significantly.
