Abstract

As in Figure 1, Turmeric is a spice derived from the root of the turmeric plant and is widely used in Asian food. The plant is a perennial herb belonging to the Zingiberaceae (ginger) family and is cultivated throughout India and Southeast Asia. Traditional Chinese and Indian cultures also use it as a medicinal plant. The yellow color of turmeric is derived from an active constituent called curcumin, a commonly used colorant agent.
